Provisional Accreditation Licence

A provisional accreditation licence is issued to institutions in substantial compliance with CLET standards, valid for two years pending full compliance.

Provisional Licence

A provisional accreditation licence is issued where the Council is satisfied that an institution is in substantial compliance with accreditation standards and is suitable and competent to offer or provide Law Practice Training — but has not yet achieved full compliance.

The provisional licence provides a two-year window within which the institution must achieve full compliance and apply for a full accreditation licence.

Conditions for Issue

The Council shall issue a provisional accreditation licence where (a) the institution is in substantial compliance with the standards and is suitable and competent to offer Law Practice Training; and (b) the institution presents a plan for bringing the institution into full compliance within two years and indicates specific actions to be taken.

Licence Contents

The provisional accreditation licence shall specify the law programme which the institution may offer, and other terms and conditions that the Council considers necessary.

Moving to Full Accreditation

An institution with a provisional licence must apply for full accreditation within the timeframes set by Act 1170.

Application Window

An institution issued a provisional licence must apply for full accreditation not earlier than one year and not later than two years after the issuance of the provisional licence.

Full Compliance Plan

The provisional licence requires the institution to present a plan for achieving full compliance. This plan governs the transition period and is reviewed by CLET.

Risk of Revocation

Failure to obtain a full accreditation licence within four years of the grant of a provisional accreditation licence is grounds for revocation of the accreditation licence.
